Orbis Editions is now accepting proposals from Maine-based artists and writers for art publications in 2018. The deadline to apply is March 31st. Orbis Editions offers a model for a small press that focuses on using publications as a space for exhibition. We define a publication to include works on paper and in digital media. Publication proposals do not need to be fully conceived but readiness to go to press is one of the primary criteria in the selection process. Applicants will be notified by May 1st. Successful applicants will receive an honorarium in the amount of $600 + royalties. Publications are printed at no cost to the artist.
- The publication program is open to Maine-based artists and writers working in any discipline
- Extra consideration will be given to artists/writers who present ideas or topics that are not well-represented in the commercial sector
- Publications may be anywhere on the spectrum of entirely text-based to images without text
- Orbis Editions encourages applications that push the boundaries of what may be considered a publication
